Take a moment to contemplate…

To improve company performance AND to be socially responsible, organisations are now recognizing that they must assist their executives and employees to become more vital, focused, confident and resilient.  By remaining cool, calm and collected, these and many more attributes are sustained.

‘Deep relaxation’ practices are being adopted by many companies to increase and sustain productivity.  Corporations, hospitals, manufacturers, sporting organizations and the arts are taking on this practise with gusto.

Lunch-time and late afternoon classes in the workplace are ideal and relaxation workshops are a perfect addition to a productive conference.

Take a moment to appreciate beauty…

We are surrounded by beauty at all times but most of us ‘operate’ at such a frenetic pace that we barely take a second to observe what we have been given or what has been put before us.

Everywhere we look, there is something wondrous for us to admire whether it be an act of nature or a work of art.  But do we notice?

This photograph is by Gregory Colbert, my favourite photographer. Canadian-born, Gregory Colbert began his career in Paris making documentary films about social issues and then his filmmaking led to his work as a fine arts photographer.

Colbert travelled to such places as India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Dominica, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tonga, Namibia and Antarctica to film and photograph wondrous interactions between human beings and animals.

Colbert is now internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s finest photographic artists.

Move Freely
Top

Take a moment to move freely…

The human body is an intricately designed machine that functions through movement.

If the body is not strengthened, lengthened, rotated, flexed, extended, and well-rested when tired, then it will simply ‘rust’, lose its mobility and ultimately break down!

Why don't you try this now...

•Stand tall–keeping your back erect by lifting abdominal muscles

•Feet – narrow hip-width apart

•Knees are soft

•Tuck the pelvis under - so that sway back is eliminated

•Evenly disperse your weight across the feet

•Feel as though someone is pulling you up by a piece of string from the crown of your head

•Feel tall and long through the neck with your head floating on top of your spine

•Shoulders are back, down and relaxed – chest broad

•Hands are by your side – palms facing towards thighs

•Sunshine your arms up towards the ceiling into a prayer position and cross the thumbs

•Lengthen towards the ceiling and as you breathe out very gently lean to the side.

•As you breathe in extend the arms back towards the ceiling.

•Repeat on the other side.

•Lower your arms and close your eyes.

Notice how you feel!

Why is it good for you?

The sides of the body gain a good stretch as the ribcage and lungs are expanded during the lateral part of the posture helping to aerate the lungs. The spine is mobilized and limbered in the side (lateral) flexion. The back and the abdominal muscles are strengthened while the internal organs are massaged.

Now that was easy…wasn't it?

Unwind

Take a moment to listen...

I am always being asked by my students about the music I play throughout my classes. I am extremely fussy when it comes to the quality and experience of the sounds and my collection is eclectic and always deeply soothing.

One is ‘Music Meditation – Unwind’ by Silvia Nakkach. Brought to you by the Relaxation Company and available on www.amazon.com

Simple and profoundly relaxing, this CD is designed to help you release the tensions of the day. The creator, Silvia Nakkach is an award-winning composer, teacher, author, psychologist and internationally acclaimed singer.

Enjoy!

Afterthought:

In the time it has taken you to read this you have possibly breathed easier, grown taller, reflected, imagined, relaxed, visualized, and honoured beauty.

All of these positive actions and processes are hundreds of times more powerful than those you experience when remaining in a lack-lustre, rote, unimaginative or indeed negative state.

And once more, this small break will have restored your energy enabling you to perform a little better and to smile a little longer.

Good Work!
